Paul Stanley

Paul Stanley (’59)

Paul Stanley was an outstanding three sport athlete on Glen Rock High School’s first football, basketball and baseball teams and was responsible for helping establish Glen Rock’s winning tradition in athletics.

The 1958 Football Team was Glen Rock’s first Varsity Football Team. Paul Stanley and Bill Seed were the team’s Co-Captains. Paul at halfback and Hall of Fame Inductee Brian Dovey at quarterback led the team to a 7-1 record. The team’s only loss was to an undefeated Glen Ridge team that included future NFL quarterback Gary Cuozzo and was subsequently named Group 1, Sectional Champion. Paul was the second leading scorer on the team with 50 points. After the season, he was named to the First Team, All-North Jersey Conference, the First Team, All-Suburban (by The Ridgewood News), the Third Team, All-County (by The Bergen Record) and the Third Team, Group 1, All-State (by The Newark News).

The 1958-59 Basketball Team was also Glen Rock’s first Varsity Basketball Team. As Captain of the team, Paul helped lead the team to its first winning record.

In the spring, Paul was a great catcher for the school’s first Varsity Baseball Team. He was also the team’s Captain. After the season, he was named to the Second Team, All-NJC and received Honorable Mention to the All-County Team.

After his days at Glen Rock, Paul attended and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point. In addition to being the starting halfback on the football team, he excelled as a defenseman in lacrosse. In the spring of his senior year, he served as Captain for the team and, after the season, the United States Lacrosse Coaches Association named him to the All-America Second Team.
