Mike Petrocci

(Dr.) Mike Petrocci ‘73


Mike Petrocci was an outstanding multi-sport athlete at Glen Rock High School,
being a Second Team, All-County soccer player and a First Team, All-County
pitcher on the baseball team.

Mike was Co-Captain and the leading scorer for the 1972 Soccer Team that won the B-PSL Championship and then won the Group 2, Sectional Championship. For his accomplishments, Mike was named to the Second Team, All-County (by The Bergen Record), First Team, All-Suburban (by The Ridgewood News) and First Team, All B-PSL.

In baseball, as a junior, Mike played shortstop for the team that won the B-PSL Championship and then won the Group 2, Sectional Championship and the Group 2, North Jersey Championship. Sadly, they were defeated by defending State Champion Haddonfield in the Group 2, State Championship final.

As a senior, Mike was the leading pitcher for the team. After repeating as B-PSL Champions, the team again won the Group 2, State Sectional Championship but lost to Clifford Scott in the Group 2, North Jersey Championship game. The team finished with a 21-5-1 record. Mike compiled a League Record of 6-0 (with a 0.54 ERA) and an Overall Record of 10-1 (with a 1.71 ERA).  For his accomplishments, Mike was named to the First Team, All-County, the First Team, All-Suburban and the First Team, All B-PSL and received All-State recognition.  

In 2007, as part of the Glen Rock High School’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, Mike was
selected Most Notable Male Scholar Athlete in the History of Glen Rock High School. In his senior year, he had received academic awards in American History, Chemistry,
Mathematics and Physics.

After graduating from Glen Rock, Mike attended Princeton University. While subsequently attending McGill University Medical School he started running marathons.  He is a two-time winner of the Ottawa Marathon. In 1980, he finished 17th in the Boston Marathon with a time of 2:20:11.(Olympian Bill Rogers won the race with a time of 2:12:11).
