Jake Rollins ( ’14)
Jake Rollins was the most successful bowler in the history of Glen Rock High School. An All Groups, State Champion, he is still the most credited bowler in Bergen County history and was recently named to the First Team, All-North Jersey, All-Quarter Century.
In the fall of 2010, a group of Glen Rock High School students and their parents launched a self-funded bowling program at the school. Freshman Jake Rollins was on that team and, led by Jake and sophomore Tyler Blind, the 2010-11 Bowling Team immediately competed for the NJIC, Colonial Championship. At the end of its debut season, Jake and Tyler were named to First Team, All-NJIC, Colonial.
In the following season, Jake and Tyler led Glen Rock to a second-place finish in the NJIC, Colonial. Jake was named to the Second Team, All-County and he and Tyler were repeat honorees on the First Team, All-NJIC, Colonial.
In Jake’s junior year, he and Tyler led the 2012-13 Bowling Team to the most successful bowling season in Glen Rock High School history. The team was an undefeated NJIC, Colonial Champion with a 16-0 record (defeating league rival and Passaic County Champion Pompton Lakes in three separate games). It was Groups 1 & 2 and then All Groups, Bergen County Champion (defeating Groups 3-4 County Champion Hackensack by 156 pins). It was Group 2, Sectional Champion (defeating #2 Westwood by 468 pins). And it was Group 2, State Runner-up (only 29 pins behind Group 2, State Champion Ewing with the then best score ever for a North Jersey school). At the end of the season, the 2012-13 Team was selected as the North Jersey Team of the Year and as the #5 Team in New Jersey (by The Star-Ledger).
At the end of that season, Jake finished fourth at the All Group, State Singles Tournament of Champions. The Star-Ledger named him to the Second Team, All-State. The Record named him North Jersey Bowler of the Year and named him to the First Team, All-County and to the First Team, All-North Jersey.
In his senior year, Jake had an even more impressive season. At the beginning of the season, he won the North Jersey Singles Classic. He then led the 2013-14 team to a third-place finish in the NJIC, Colonial. At the end of the season, he won the State Tournament of Champions after bowling 12 consecutive strikes for a perfect score of 300 in his final game, thereby being the All Groups, State Champion.
The Star-Ledger named him New Jersey State Bowler of the Year and named him to the First Team, All-State. The Record named him North Jersey Bowler of the Year and named him to the First Team, All-County and to the First Team, All-North Jersey.
Jake was subsequently Co-Winner of The Record’s Ron Fox Award (given to the athlete who made the biggest impact in Bergen County during the winter sport season). He shared that award with a three-time wrestling State Champion. Jake was also honored by the Bergen County YMCA for Outstanding Achievement in High School Sports.
Jake is still the most successful bowler in Bergen County history. In 2020, he was named to the First Team, All-Decade (2010-19), All-North Jersey. In 2025, he was named to the First Team, All-Quarter Century, All-North Jersey.
After graduating from Glen Rock High School, Jake continued his athletic career at William Paterson University of New Jersey and led the school’s bowling team to significant success. In Jake’s sophomore year, the team finished second in the Intercollegiate Team Championship (ITC) national tournament. In his junior year, the team won the Collegiate Club Championship and then finished in the top five at the ITC national tournament. In his senior year, with Jake as the team’s anchorman, the team was a rare repeat winner of the Collegiate Club Championship and, once again, finished in the top five at the ITC national tournament. As a result, Jake was named to both the Collegiate Club All-Tournament Team and the ITC All-Tournament Team.
Since graduating from William Paterson with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Jake has continued to bowl as a member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) and has won multiple Eastern Region titles.
