Everett Schenck

Everett Schenk (’67)

Everett Schenk was Glen Rock High School’s most decorated Cross Country
male athlete.

Everett Schenk won the Group 3, State Sectional Cross Country Championship as a senior. He is the only Glen Rock boy to win a State Sectional Cross Country Championship at any group level.

Led by Everett, the 1966 Boys Cross Country Team won the Group 3, State Sectional Championship and finished second in the Group 3, State Finals. They won that Sectional Championship with a score of only 25 points, a figure that stood as the lowest total in Group 3, State Section 1 history until 2015. They were also the only Glen Rock High School Cross Country team to win a Sectional Championship until each of the 2001 Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams won the Group 1, Sectional Championship.

Notwithstanding his cross country success, Everett was primarily an 880 yards track star. In both his junior and senior years, Everett was Group 3, Bergen County Champion and NBIL League Champion in the 880 yards race (and was named First Team, All County in 1967). There were only three Group 3, Bergen County track champions in the history of Glen Rock: Hall of Fame Inductees Ron Duncan and Dave Stanley, and Everett.

Everett did not have the opportunity to win a Group Sectional track championship – those were not begun until 1968, the year after he graduated.

In June 1967, Everett and fellow Hall of Fame Inductee Scott Christie received Glen Rock High School’s esteemed Athlete of the Year Award (a rare example of this award being shared).

After graduating from Glen Rock, Everett received his undergraduate degree from Brown University, where he ran track all four years, and then his MBA degree from the Dartmouth College Amos Tuck School of Business.
