Chris Staines, an outstanding hockey player, received Honorable Mention to the Bergen County, All-Decade team for his substantial accomplishments, which included a then Glen Rock High School record 71 goals as well as 51 assists, while playing primarily as a defenseman.

In Chris Staines’ four years as a starting defenseman, he helped lead Glen Rock High
School’s recently-launched ice hockey program from being in the lower Blue Division of the North Conference to the middle White Division and then to the top Red Division.

During his freshman year, the Rockers won the Blue Division regular season crown and the Nardello Cup by winning the postseason tournament, and thereby were promoted to the White Division. In Chris’ sophomore year, the team won the White Division regular season crown and the McMullan Cup, and earned promotion to the top Red Division. In his junior year, with Glen Rock now playing even stronger teams, Chris scored 22 goals and had 11 assists, and was named to the Second Team, All-North Jersey, to the First Team, North Conference (Red) and to the First Team, All-Suburban. Finally, in his senior year, Chris was the Captain of a team that won the Red Division postseason tournament, the Earl Hoemer Cup, making Glen Rock the first team to ever win cups in all three divisions. During that year, Chris led the team in scoring with 32 goals and 18 assists, including 23 goals after Chris was moved upfront in the middle of the season to strengthen the team’s offense (while returning to defense on penalty kills). After the season, Chris was named to the First Team, North Conference (Red) and to the First Team, All-Suburban.
