Bud Zachary (’66)


Bud Zachary was one of the two most successful golfers in the history of Glen
Rock High School. His numerous accomplishments include being an All-School,
State Champion.

Bud Zachary’s performances on New Jersey’s golf courses established him as the most successful golfer in the history of Glen Rock High School. Bud was a fearless competitor who thrived under pressure and never rattled.

As a junior, Bud finished third In the Bergen County Interscholastic Golf League Individual Tournament after leading Glen Rock’s golf team to a Bergen County Interscholastic Golf League Team Championship. In the All School, State Tournament, Bud won the Individual Championship with a one-over-par 72, the then-lowest score in State Tournament history, and Glen Rock finished eighth.

As a senior, Bud finished first In the Bergen County Interscholastic Golf League Individual Tournament after leading Glen Rock’s golf team to a repeat Bergen County Interscholastic Golf League Team Championship. In the All School, State Tournament, Bud finished second and Glen Rock finished tied for third place.

After graduating from Glen Rock High School, Bud attended and graduated from Princeton University, where he led the Tigers to both the Ivy League and Metropolitan Intercollegiate Golf Association crowns in 1969 and earned All-American recognition in both 1968 and 1969. In 1970, he was Captain of the Princeton team and selected to the All-Ivy team. In addition, Bud won the NJSPGA Amateur title in both 1967 and 1969.
