Ben Probert (’08)


Ben Probert, an outstanding lacrosse player, was named to the Bergen County All-Decade team for his substantial accomplishments, which included a Glen Rock High School record 177 goals as well as 103 assists.

Ben Probert started every game during Glen Rock High School’s Lacrosse Team’s first four years of existence and ran the Panthers’ attack as the team advanced from being an independent in Ben’s freshman and sophomore years to becoming a member of the Pauley Division of the New Jersey Interscholastic Lacrosse League in Ben’s junior and senior years. As a sophomore, Ben led the team in scoring, with 35 goals and 24 assists. In both his junior year and his senior year, Ben was the #1 scorer in Bergen County, with 75 goals and 30 assists and then (despite opponents focusing their defenses on him) with 59 goals and 39 assists. In that senior year, Ben was Team Captain. In his final game for Glen Rock High School, he set the school’s single game goal scoring record, with 13 goals on 17 shots, in a game that won the school’s first League Championship in lacrosse. Ben was named to the to the Second Team, All-State (C Division) as a junior and to the First Team, All-State (C Division) as a senior. He was also named to the First Team, All-North Jersey and to the First Team, Pooley Division – and was named player of the Year in the Pooley Division – in both of those years. He was also one of only eight high school lacrosse players in New Jersey to be named a U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-American by the New Jersey Interscholastic Lacrosse Coaches Association. 

In 2010, Ben was named to the Bergen County All-Decade team by The Record.

Ben also played varsity soccer for three years and helped lead those teams to consecutive league titles. In his junior year, he started as outside fullback and was named to the Second Team, B-PSL-King. In his senior year, he was moved to a forward position and received Honorable Mention, All-County and was named to the Second Team, All B-PSL-King and Second Team, All-Suburban (by The Ridgewood News).

Ben also played varsity ice hockey team for four years. In Ben’s sophomore year, the team won the Blue Division regular season crown and the Nardello Cup by winning the postseason tournament. In his junior year, the team won the White Division regular season crown and the McMullan Cup. In his senior year, as the Team Captain, he was the team’s #2 scorer with 19 goals and 17 assists and helped lead the team to the finals of the Cup Tournament in the Northern Conference’s toughest circuit, the Red Division. At the end of the season, Ben  received Honorable Mention, Red Division and was named to the First Team, All-Suburban. He ended his career with 40 goals and 37 assists.

After graduating from Glen Rock High School, Ben attended and graduated from the University of Virginia.
