Ryan McCann

Ryan McCann (’03)

Ryan McCann is considered to be Glen Rock High School’s All-Time Top Mid-Distance Runner.

Ryan was Group 1, State Champion in the 1600 meters during his Junior Year and Group 1, State Champion in the 800 and the 1600 during his Senior Year. Prior to those meets, he was BPSL Champion in the 400 (as a senior), in the 800  (as a junior) and in the 1600  (as a junior and a senior); Group 1, County Champion in the 800 (as a sophomore, a junior and a senior) and in the 1600 (as a junior and a senior); and Group 1, State Sectional Champion in the 800  (as a junior and a senior) and in the 1600 (as a sophomore, a junior and a senior).

Ryan still holds the Glen Rock High School record for the 800 and the 1600. In addition, his Personal Best time of 1:53.1 in the 800 is still the BPSL League Record and has only been exceeded by fourteen other Bergen County high school runners.

In addition to his success in the 800 and the 1600, Ryan anchored many of the Track Team’s Relay Teams, including the 4 x 400 team that won the State Group 1 Championship in both his junior and senior years. Coach Paul White believes that Ryan’s anchor leg as a senior, where he overcame a 30 yard deficit, may be the best in school history.

Led by Ryan, Glen Rock’s 2003 and 2004 Track teams were crowned Group 1, State Champions.

Ryan played for Glen Rock’s Soccer Team during his Sophomore and Junior Years. In his Senior Year, he joined the Cross Country team that won the Group C, Bergen County Championship (and he was named to 2nd Team, All County).

Ryan attended Duke University where he was achieved NCAA D1 All East Coast honors and was a part of the then school-record 4 x 800 team. After a five year stint in advertising at Ogilvy and Mather, Ryan is living in Brooklyn and working as a free-spirited personal trainer and fitness teacher. He hopes to add Marathon, Ultra and Ironman to his considerable resume.
