1966 Boys Cross Country

1966 Boys Cross Country Team

The 1966 Boys Cross Country team was the most dominant cross country
team in Glen Rock High School history.

The 1966 Boys Cross Country Team won the Group 3, Sectional
Championship. They won that championship with a score of only 25 points, a
figure that stood as the lowest total in Group 3, State Section 1 history until 2015. They were also the only Glen Rock High School cross country team to win a Sectional Championship until each of the 2001 Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams won the Group 1, Sectional Championship.

The team was led by Hall of Fame Inductee senior Everett Schenk, who finished first in that Group 3, Sectional Championship meet and who is the only Glen Rock boy to win a Cross Country Sectional Championship at any group level.

In the Group 3,Sectional Championship, Everett was followed by fellow senior Bob Jonic in second place, junior John Kruse in third place, senior Tim Morck in eighth place and sophomore Andy Mosney in eleventh place.

After the Sectional Championship, the 1966 team competed in the Group 3,
State Championship and finished second to Brick Township (that was in the midst of a
string of four Group 3, State Championships).

Prior to the Sectional Championship, the team won the NBIL East League
Championship with a similarly dominant score.

The team’s other members were Chris Morton, Walt Mosch and Jim Pfeiffer.
During their years at Glen Rock High School, the team’s members were also
very successful track athletes, with both Everett and then Andy setting numerous
school records. In addition, many of the team’s members ran competitively in
college.
